Vision

To educate and inspire the citizens & leaders of Louisiana to embrace and implement sustainable design and construction in our natural and built environments, with special emphasis on infrastructure and systems improvement.

Mission Statement

The USGBC-LA will continually promote the principles and concepts of green building practices in the State of Louisiana to assist the US Green Building Council national organization in the protection of the environment and the reduction of the consumption of precious resources. As Louisiana rebuilds its gulf-coast economy and wetlands, USGBC-LA will provide a visible platform for advancing sustainable building principles and environmentally responsible practices that improve environmental protection, economic development, and social equity.

John Anderson

Unabridged Architecture

John Anderson was the first LEED-Accredited Professional in the state of Louisiana, and currently works for Unabridged Architecture in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Mr. Anderson earned a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas, and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Southern California. He has been a licensed architect in Texas since 1991 and has taught architecture at the University of Texas. He also serves on the Board of Directors of A Studio in the Woods in New Orleans and the Bay Saint Louis Little Theatre in Bay St Louis, Mississippi.

Lynne Martin is a Commercial Interior Designer and Project Manager with over 23 years of Interior Design experience. A graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Lynne earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design in 1984. Lynne has been living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for thirteen years, initially working as an in Director of Interior Design for Piccadilly Restaurants, and then founding Diversified Design Group LLC in the spring of 2001. Achieving LEED Accredited Professional status in the summer of 2004, Lynne is looking forward to assisting the USGBC Louisiana Chapter in encouraging and promoting sustainable building design and construction in the State of Louisiana.

Terry Heaton
DOE Strategic Petroleum Reserve Project - Environmental Consultant

Ms. Terry Heaton is currently serving as the Environmental, Safety, and Health technical services support contractor to the Department of Energy, a federal partner committed to implementing the Energy Policy Act 2005 and the high performance building /sustainability goals identified in Executive Order 13423 “Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management”. She frequently serves in a Project Management or Team Leader role and has in the past, personally initiated through performance improvement development teams, many of the waste minimization and sustainable building projects for the government. Ms. Heaton’s educational accomplishments include an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences and a Masters in Science. She is a Registered Environmental Professional (REM) and also maintains a Louisiana Emergency Management (LEM) certification for public safety and environmental protection. She was elected to the USGBC LA Chapter board, is currently serving as the Chapter’s Secretary and as a member of the Finance Committee. She currently holds several memberships in notable positions with other professional and volunteer organizations relevant to LA Chapter’s mission.

Richard Schega started his career in the petroleum, chemical, and nuclear energy industries as an electrical technician wiring control panels. After receiving his BS from the University of New Orleans, he joined Siemens’ electrical distributor sales division and was recognized as “CDS Salesman of the Year North America, 1984.” At Steelcase Furniture he spent 18 years in a variety of positions including: Sales, Product Training Specialist, Systems Utilities Field Product Manager and Learning Development Consultant. Katrina helped Richard and his wife Jean of 33 years relocate from St Bernard, LA to Baton Rouge and in 2007 became Vice President of Sales at Frost Barber in Baton Rouge, LA.

James Bourgeois joined Tandus in 2003 as an account executive serving Louisiana and Mississippi.
Tandus creates floorcovering solutions that enhance spaces for learning, working, healing, and living through inspired design, leading-edge technology and unprecedented achievement toward sustainability. In addition to his soft-surface floorcoverings experience with Tandus, James has extensive knowledge of the hard-surface floorcoverings. He served as an account executive in Texas and national account specialist in Pennsylvania with Forbo Industries, a linoleum and sheet vinyl manufacturer. James also managed the Southwest Region for TEC Specialty Products, an underlayment and tile settings manufacturer. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing from Louisiana State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Textiles and Apparel from Texas Woman’s University.

Charlie Chartier is principal of Chartier & Associates, Inc., manufacturers' representatives and consultants, specializing in the floor covering industry. Charlie started his sales career as Regional Manager for Stratton Industries, commercial carpet manufacturer, in 1976. In 1984 he formed Chartier & Associates, Inc.
The company represents Avenue Rugs since 1997 and Interface since 1985.
Interface is a world leader in manufacturing and recycling carpet tiles for the built environment. It’s “Mission Zero” practices have proved a business case for sustainability and green high performance design.
Avenue Rugs, division of Chartier & Associates, Inc., designs, engineers and imports commercial quality custom hand tufted rugs and carpet.

Gregory Coates

Storer Building Services

Greg Coates is the Building Services Leader for STORER Equipment Co. in Shreveport, LA. His role is to create and manage customer contracts by bundling facility services that improve building energy efficiency and operational performance. Greg leverages technical and human resources to manage HVAC and controls systems across the enterprise to deliver comfort, cost control and convenience for STORER’s client’s in their buildings.
Greg spent nearly 20 years in Houston, TX, where he was highly involved in flagship projects such as the Reliant Stadium complex. Greg holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Upon graduation he worked as Texas Branch Manager for Siemens where he managed sales and engineering teams across the state of Texas. His return to Louisiana as Branch Manager for Johnson Controls gave him his first experience with commercial facility management.

Director Global Green

Beth is the director of New Orleans Resource Office & Center for Global Green. She is responsible for the operation of Global Green USA's New Orleans Resource Center & Office, supervision of the Sustainable Design Competition, and rebuilding initiatives including green affordable homes, schools, and churches. She was formerly the Deputy Director of the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic, which was the first recipient of the American Bar Association's Distinguished Environmental Achievement Award and the National Law Journal's Runner-Up Lawyer of the Year during her tenure, for its groundbreaking work in the field of Environmental Justice. She was formerly the legal representation of the New Jersey Attorney General and the Quapaw Indian Nation regarding damages to their natural resources. She is a 2008 Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellow. She holds a L.L.M. Environmental & Energy Law and J.D. from Tulane Law School.

Ella is an intern architect who recently moved to New Orleans from Austin. While in school she studied social and environmental aspects of architecture. This focus took her to South Africa to study their housing program as part of her final semester. She now works at N-Y Associates and is a member of Thalweg Studio, a multi-disciplinary design group involved in local projects and design competitions. She is also working with Houzeau House, a group looking to restore a house as a community center and learning lab. It will serve as an example of green and socially conscious home restoration for neighborhoods in threat of gentrification.
